Mentions of Antonio de Carpio are scarce in the bibliography and in the numerous studies that have been carried out on the Jubia Royal Mint. Of this engraver it is collected in those papers little more that he was born in Seville, that his previous position had been that of Doorman of the Council, his salary, that that he had been appointed principal engraver of this Mint along with the rest of the staff by Resolution of June 9 1811, and that he had retired before February 12, 1817, given that on this date his vacant position was filled by José Coronal. This article analyzes his life and his positions in Seville and Jubia Mints, in light of the data contained in a file of the National Historical Archive of Spain.
Keywords: Jubia Mint, Currency, Coin Engraving, Maravedies.
